New FENA Web Site

If you’re reading this, you’ve certainly noticed the newly-designed web site. We hope you like it as you navigate around and see the added features in the Fergie Talks section which is now searchable and each question/answer is its own article so you can browse them more easily.

Try it on your mobile devices as well – the new site is more usable on those.

If you notice typos or problems with the site, please email the webmaster at webmaster@fergusontractors.org.

New Ferguson Furrows Editor

The Board has agreed to use Rick Keating from Varna, IL as the new Furrows Editor and layout person.

He comes highly recommended by other tractor magazine editors and publishers. He will begin immediately with the January issue. Thanks to Judy Kitson and Tom Carrig for all of their work in the past.

Web Site Helpers Still Needed

We need someone who will update the events calendar on this website. Duties include entering shows from a show guide that will be provided, and entering shows that members send in to us. As time permits, this person would also do computer searches for shows to add to the calendar.

Please contact the webmaster at webmaster@fergusontractors.org if you are interested in this opportunity.

Financial Support for Regional Shows

The 2016 Board of Directors has announced a new program for financial support to regional shows featuring Ferguson Tractors and Implements. The Board must approve any request prior to the show date. Consideration will be given for such things as tent rentals, expenses for two-way shipping of merchandise, advertising, show grounds fees or other incidental expenses that might be incurred. This program is designed to encourage local clubs or individuals to promote the Ferguson brand and get more exposure for Ferguson than the annual Expo can provide. There are so many areas in the USA that do not have enough members to support having an Expo, so it is important to try this kind of outreach to help remedy this situation.

The main objective would be to get a group of members to bring Ferguson tractors and implements to a designated show to demonstrate the comradery of FENA members, promote FENA membership and have merchandise available for sale.

FENA would provide a large and small banner for use at the show to help identify the “Ferguson” area and help draw attention to the display.

If you would like to consider doing a regional show, contact one of the board members to see if this program would work for you.

Let’s get out and show off those Fergusons!

FENA Announces Educational Scholarships

When FENA members gather at the Expos, the talk always turns to who is going to carry on the Ferguson legacy. How can young people be attracted to the preservation and maintenance of the collections held so dear to FENA members? How will FENA as an organization continue given the ever-increasing average age of the membership?

Research began on how other tractor associations addressed this issue. One way is to offer an educational scholarship, and many other groups do just that. The FENA Board is proud to announce the First Annual FENA Educational Scholarships.

FENA SCHOLARSHIP RULES

FENA scholarships are intended for graduating seniors or any other full time higher education student, whose parent, guardian or grandparent is a member in good standing of the Ferguson Enthusiasts of North America as of the March 1 application deadline.

Two (2) FENA Scholarships in the amount of $500 per scholarship will be awarded annually each spring. The application deadline will be March 1 each year beginning March 1, 2017. The scholarship will be paid directly to the student and the educational institution.

The letter of application must include the name, address, phone number, and photo of the applicant. A 500-word essay must accompany the application. The winning applicants must allow their essay and photo to be published in the Furrows. The essay must include references on the topic. The word count does not include the reference material.

For 2017 the essay will be on the following topic:

HARRY FERGUSON’S GENTLEMAN’S AGREEMENT WITH HENRY FORD ON THE “FERGUSON SYSTEM”

Completed applications should be mailed by March 1, 2017 to:

Ken Keeven
FENA Vice President
12041 State Route 143
Highland, IL 62249

Restoration Archives

Paul Hoehne is setting up a new Gallery section concentrating on showing proper colors for each model Ferguson or early MF tractors. This section is called Restoration Archives, and he needs photos of tractors that have been restored correctly, or have been maintained correctly in their original paint.

If you wish to submit your Ferguson for inclusion in the archive, please contact Paul at: ipaddownload1@gmail.com or (865) 556-2187, or by mail, 239 Lenz Drive, Kodak, TN. He will send you a specification sheet detailing what should be shown. The pictures can be submitted electronically or by mail. Every included entry will be fully credited.

These pictures will be used by members and supporters of FENA to assist in the accurate restoration of their Ferguson. Robert (Bob) Sybrandy, technical advisor to FENA, will also use the archive as he answers member questions.

Photo Section

Richard Smith has volunteered to organize the rest of our Galleries. We have lots of photos that need to be put up in the different categories there. Unfortunately they weren’t always saved with their full information, so Richard may be contacting you along for more information about your tractor. Even though these photos may not qualify for the Restoration Archives section they are of interest to many of our members and we want to have them documented properly. We have also added a section for Videos.

Calendar Photos Needed

Horizontal (landscape) shots are desired, either with a person on a tractor that is working (not posed) or without a person on a posed tractor. Deadline is June 1, 2017, so we can get prints to the August 18-20 2017 EXPO in Antique Acres, Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the members to choose the ones they want in the 2018 Calendar.

Send original-resolution (or original-size) submissions to Joseph Olszewski at jolszewski@rochester.rr.com.  If the photos are large and you have more than one, you may have to send them one at a time.
